RESOLVEit team up with The DOfE!
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is the world's leading youth achievement award, with over 438,000 young people currently doing their DofE in the UK. 14-24 year-olds can do a DofE programme at one of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity.
In these unprecedented times, RESOLVEit aims to reach out to as many young people and find ways in which young people doing their DofE can complete the volunteering sections from their own homes.
We believe our community challenge is a great way for those undertaking the DOfE qualifications to develop and raise personal safety awareness in their community, positively impacting and improving the lives within the local community.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The aim of the RESOLVEit’s Community Challenge is to encourage young people who are digital natives and comfortable with the use of technology, to raise personal safety awareness in their local school communities, by designing marketing material for a safety event and promoting this locally.
As an individual or a member of a team (3-6 members), you will be expected to identify opportunities that will develop the understanding of personal safety within the local community.
Every student who gets involved in this challenge will be trained remotely via Zoom to become a RESOLVEit Safety Hero; receive our qualification pin badge to wear and downloadable RESOLVEit Safety School membership badge to display on their school website.
To become a RESOLVEit Safety Hero, young people will need to complete a number of steps:
Design marketing material for a safety campaign and promote this online- Bronze award.
Produce and run a digital personal safety campaign on personal safety using RESOLVEit as a platform to promote personal safety and its importance - Silver award
We all need to be more aware of our own personal safety and the challenges we may meet on a personal level, in our local community and school.
During this challenge, you will focus on real-life concerns and needs through activities which aim to make a difference in the community. You must consider whether you need to develop and extend your skills, knowledge and understanding to be able to successfully meet the needs of the Challenge.
“How can you raise awareness and make a difference?”- This is your opportunity to help!
